I joined the Skipton Group in October 2003 at the HML Glasgow Office and I have been involved with SURGE for over 5 years now.
I started as the only representative in the old HML Glasgow office, where I was also the consultant for the Credit Management Department and my first issue was to reinstate a clean microwave into the small kitchen we had at the time. I then had the opportunity to take up a secondment role in Skipton in 2005 within Credit Management, which was initially for 6-months, but eventually became permanent. I still kept my role within SURGE (or SKISA as it was known then) and eventually became Vice-Chair in 2007 and then Chair in 2008.
After months of negotiations the Group finally agreed to SURGE having one full time position within the business and I took this role on at the beginning of 2010.
When I took over as Chair/General Secretary my main objective was to establish SURGE as a fully functional, independent and strong union across all corners of the Skipton Group. This ambition will never happen overnight, but myself and the rest of the committee believe we are heading in the right direction. I want all of our members to trust us and be confident that everything we do is for their benefit within the parameters we can work within.
In my very rare and precious spare time I like to spend as much of it as I can with my family, Michelle my partner and my two children Alix (7) and Brian (3). I am a very keen football fan and a supporter of one of the two big Glasgow teams (let’s just say I wasn’t the happier of the two last season) I also enjoy music and used to play in bands in Glasgow, but of course the rock and roll dream is slowly disappearing now and I need to finally accept it has gone!! |
